The new DZ-2000 Switch Controller is controlled by single wire that you run from your Command Base to anywhere on your layout. Just provide accessory power and ground and connect the DZ-2000 to your DZ-1000 Switch Machine. Slide the switch to program, send a switch command from your CAB-1 and the controller is programmed. The controller is fully compatible with DZ-1000 Switch machines and will make sure the LEDs on the DZ-1000 stay on. It can also be programmed to operate traditional accessories. Using the DZ-2001 Data Wire Driver, isolates the Command base from the controller and track and lets you use non-derailing connections with the DZ-1000 Switch Machine, since non-derailing operation requires connecting to COMMON the L and R inputs of the DZ-1000.

This assumes a DATA WIRE has been generated using a DZ-2001 plugged into your Lionel TMCC Command Base.

(SW – switch button, ACC – accessory button on CAB-1)

1.    Connect the RED wire to 12-18VAC accessory power.

2.    Connect the BLACK wire to accessory common or neutral.

3.    Connect the BLUE wire to the data wire for your layout.

4.    Connect the GREEN wire to the R terminal and the YELLOW wire to the L terminal on the DZ-1000.

5.    Connect the AC terminal on the DZ-1000 to 12-18VAC.

6.    Turn ACCESSORY power ON and turn on power to the Lionel Command Base. Either the RED or the GREEN LED on the DZ-1000 should light. Check the connections to the DZ-1000 by manually throwing it to the other position to see that the opposite LED lights up.

7.    Place the RUN/SET switch in the SET position. The RED LED light should come on.

8.    Manually throw the DZ-1000 to the THRU position.

9.    Using your CAB-1 Remote, press SW, then press the switch number (like ‘5’), then the THRU (AUX1) button. The LED on the DZ-2000 should flash continuously, indicating that the address has been successfully set. If the LED flashes and stops, then there was an error. Try pressing the THRU button again or holding it down for 2 seconds. (Pressing the SET button instead of the THRU will also work.)

10.Assuming you were successful, slide the switch on the DZ-2000 to the RUN position. The DZ-2000 LED should go out.

11.By pressing SW, 5, then OUT the DZ-1000 should change to the OUT position. Pressing THRU should change it back to the THRU position. The LEDs on the DZ-1000 may need to be exchanged to correctly indicate the THRU and OUT positions.

This completes the setup and testing of the DZ-2000. It may be installed anywhere on your layout. Just run a DATA wire, accessory power and common around your layout. Then DZ-2000 Controllers can be added anywhere at anytime.

SPECIAL NOTE: Whichever position the DZ-1000 Switch Machine is in when the DZ-2000 Controller is programmed with an address, that position becomes the THRU position for that switch.

Detailed Operation and Options:

·   ROUTES

The controller can be programmed used just like the SC-2 and will accept Route Commands for routes 0-9. Follow the instructions for programming switches to be used in a ROUTE (RTE). The DZ-2000 must all ready be programmed with an address and put in the RUN mode.

·   ADDRESSING

Each DZ-2000 can be set to a SW or ACC address from 1-97. Since the controllers are individual units, more than one DZ-2000 can be programmed with the same address. This can be useful for passing sidings. The switch controller at each end of the siding can be given the same address (like 6). When SW, 6, OUT is pressed both switches will operate. To set an accessory address, press ACC, (address number), AUX1 (or SET) buttons on the CAB-1 remote.

·   SPECIAL MODES

When the DZ-2000 is connected to a DZ-1000 and the DZ-1000 is manually changed from THRU to OUT (for example), the LED on the DZ-2000 will flash and it will output a signal on the DATA WIRE. The signal indicates the new position by sending the TMCC code ($FE followed by two bytes) that would set it to the new position.

When the DZ-2000 receives a SW, (SW#), SET command in RUN mode (e.g. pressing SW, 5, SET), it will respond with a signal on the DATA WIRE indicating its current position using TMCC codes. This will include the SW ADDRESS number and the DATA will be 00000 for THRU and 11111 for OUT.

SWITCH CONTROLLER OUTPUTS

·   OUTPUTS

The outputs normally provide a 0.5 second pulse, but can be set to stay on. Put the DZ-2000 switch in SET, then using the CAB-1, press SW, (98 or 99), then AUX1. 98 puts the DZ-2000 in momentary mode (default) and 99 puts it in STAY ON mode.

·   INDICATOR

The DZ-2000 can also be used with the DZ-1002 remote as shown in Figure 2. The switch position can be shown by connecting the WHITE wire, which is HIGH for THRU and LOW for OUT positions, to a DZ-1011. (See Figure 2)

Accessory Operation:

The controller can also operated many traditional accessories like water towers, log loaders and switch towers. The GREEN wire output is an alternate ON/OFF when the AUX2 button is pressed and the YELLOW & GRAY wires are ON only while the AUX1  button is pressed. Typical operation would be to connect one terminal of the accessory to 12-18VAC and the other terminal to the DZ-2000. Figure 3 shows the wiring for a log loader.
